Powertrain Installation is one of four development departments within Powertrain, who mainly focus on development within five areas: Engine Mounts System, Exhaust System, Air Induction System, Cooling System, and Fuel System. We perform the development from strategy to production start. Engine Mounts System and Air Induction System are today merged into one section that consists of around 50 people and is divided into 3 groups, two technical groups and a third group (Projects) consisting of all the Group Design Leaders and System Project Leaders (SPL) for both areas. Our two product areas have a major impact on the car's total experience as an end product. This position is within the Projects group. As Group Design Leader - Air Induction System you will be working in the industrialisation phase of the project up until production start, implementing the components of the system. The work will be carried out together with a team consisting of design engineers, test engineers and CAE engineers. As a Group Design Leader at Air Induction System, you have the responsibility for some components of the air intake system. The work is very cross-functional with many contacts both within and outside Volvo.
Main responsibilities
• Coordinate and lead the team to reach the technical objectives and secure the deliveries within the given time and budget
• Together with the team, develop technical solutions and documentation that describe the systems and components (or review solutions developed by supplier)
• Initiate and assure that corrective actions are carried out when deviations occurs
• Together with the responsible design engineers, set up, manage and follow up the component development time plans
• Ordering of test objects, soft tools and bought assignments
• The work will require close contact with other areas within R&D and our suppliers
• Communicate the status and forecast for the project to SPL (System Program Manager) and line organisation
Required qualifications
• B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering or equivalent based on work experience
• At least 5 years' experience from product development
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Master's degree within some of the fields mentioned above is meritorious
• Previous experience as a team/project leader is meritorious, as well as technical knowledge of the area and knowledge in Volvo Cars' processes and systems.
