In Global Medicines Development (GMD), our mission is to transform innovative molecules into medicines that change lives. We are responsible for enabling the business to make critical pipeline and investment decisions, to ensure they select the right molecules to progress and to seize the right life-cycle management opportunities - generating the data required to drive regulatory submissions for new medicines and expanded indications and generating the evidence that shows their true value.
GMD Operations aims to provide best-in-class and cost effective enabling support to all teams within the Global Medicines Development (GMD) Science Unit.
The Communications Director leads the internal communications function for GMD and is responsible for ensuring effective communications strategy and delivery to the diverse functions across the global organisation. This position sets communications themes across the GMD organisation and ensure alignment with strategic AZ messages and goals. They drive continued development of the approaches to communication and coach senior leaders to improve effectiveness.
Location: Gothenburg, Sweden or Cambridge, United Kingdom
Typical Accountabilities
* Leads the planning and ensures the overall delivery of internal communications strategy for the GMD Functions, to shape current thinking and drive key business messages
* Leads specific internal communications projects.
* Ensures the overall delivery of effective internal communications within GMD Functions that enhance employee engagement and are aligned with broader AZ strategic messages.
* Advises and coaches senior leaders on message, approach and style to increase the effectiveness of communication.
* Partners with Corporate Affairs Communications Business Partners to ensure alignment of strategic communication and engagement activities.
* Drives the continuous development of communications channels and innovative approaches
* Leads internal communications initiatives on complex pieces of work or to help support and embed new processes and technologies/channels
* Builds, leads and manages a team of communications professionals including development planning and performance management
* Provides/ensures training and development to build a pipeline of future talent.
Essential Requirements
* Established track record of delivering impactful, content rich communications programmes across multiple channels and stakeholders
* Demonstrated ability to build and implement effective communication plans and strategies
* Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and project initiatives in a changing environment
* Understanding and experience of digital and social media
* Ability to develop networks and communicate across geographic and cultural boundaries
* Business relationship management, able to build and sustain effective working relationships with senior leaders.
* Ability to influence broadly and manage stakeholders at all levels within and outside the organisation
* Experience of supporting senior leaders through communications counselling and comfortable in delivering alternative viewpoints
* Experience in working in a global and matrix business environment
* Fluent in verbal and written English as the AstraZeneca working language with excellent writing skills
Desirable requirements
* Professional communication experience in science/technology, healthcare and/or pharmaceutical communication
* Knowledge of and experience of leading change communications
* Understanding of the media and external communications environment
* Experience of working with a wide range of communication vehicles.
* Understanding of external business environment and business challenges, and how these impact on Global Medicines Development
This role could be a full-time opportunity, but we would also consider hiring two part-time employees.
