Democracy and Social Change for Sustainable Natural Resource Management
(Forskarassistent i Miljökommunikation med inriktning mot demokrati och social förändring för hållbar naturresurshantering)
SLU develops knowledge about our biological natural resources ? everything that lives and grows. At SLU we conduct research, teach and inform about the opportunities, and possible risks incurred, when using our forests, landscapes, soils and animals in different ways. Main campuses are located at Alnarp, Skara, Umeå and Uppsala.
Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences is the largest of the four faculties of SLU. Our area of activity covers a wide range of disciplines, spanning over agriculture, food and biotechnology to natural resources, environment and landscape planning. Most of our departments are located in Uppsala, 65 km north of Stockholm.
www.slu.sewww.sol.slu.seA position as Assistant Professor (forskarassistent) is available in the Unit of Environmental Communication at the Department of Urban and Rural Development.
Research area: As an academic subject at SLU we see Environmental Communication as concerned with natural resource management contexts and the issues arising from a collision of demands and perspectives held by production and conservation interests. It aims to study social interaction of different forms, e g conflict, learning, negotiation and power concerning natural resource management. The new appointment is aimed at strengthening our understanding of how this is carried out as co-constructed actions at the interpersonal level. We seek to consolidate present research in the unit and focus on building theory and practice of environmental communication as an emerging field in Sweden and beyond.
The Assistant Professor position sets out to focus on democracy and social change for sustainable natural resource management. These studies will concentrate on contexts such as water governance, and the future agriculture and forestry challenged by climate change scenarios. Methodologically the position aims to strengthen the units experience in action research and related methods.
Duties: The Assistant Professor is expected to perform research and develop science within the subject area and help to strengthen and broaden the Unit?s methodological competences. The appointee will also contribute to teaching in the Unit.
Eligibility: Applicants should hold a PhD degree, or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate, in Environmental Communication or in a related area of specialization in social sciences connected to nature-society interface and/or natural resource management situations. Priority will be given to applicants who have been awarded their PhD degree at most five years before the application deadline.
We welcome your application, marked with the reference number 3711/2010 that should be sent to the Registry office, SLU, P O Box 7070, SE-750 07 Uppsala, Sweden, no later than January 10, 2011.
