hela Sverige The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source Eric in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for an Electromechanical Technician - High Power Electronics.
Description of directorate/section
The Accelerator Division is responsible for the design, construction, commissioning and operation of the ESS accelerator. The pulsed superconducting linac, to be built in Lund, will produce a 5 MW average power proton beam, driving the world 's most powerful neutron source. The Power Converters section, within the Accelerator Division, is in charge of designing, specification, procurement, testing and later on operation and maintenance of power converters for the ESS accelerator Linac, including the High Voltage power converters for the RF amplifiers (weighting up-to 8 tons each) and the low voltage power converters for the magnets (about 300 units in total). The total installed power of these power converters will be in the order of 15MVA.
Description of main responsibilities
Under the supervision of the power converters section leader:
• Provide support in the electromechanical construction setup of power converter prototypes, from power levels ranging from a few kW to several hundreds of kW, including High Voltage up-to 115kV
• Installing the power components and controllers in the electrical cabinets or racks
• Wiring the power cables inside the cabinets/racks and the signal cables for the controller
• Install the power converters in their test stands and connect them to the AC power line, load and water cooling circuit whenever applicable
• Keep the test stands organised and with appropriate tools, components, instruments, etc
• Provide support in measurements and in testing of power converters and electrical apparatus
• Execute different mechanical works for power converter and installation auxiliaries
Qualifications
To be successful and perform well in this position, you have the following technical and behavioral competencies and experiences.
• Technician degree in electrical or electronics systems
• At least 5 years of work experience in electromechanical works requiring several tasks like placing components in electrical cabinets, wiring of power and signal cables, is essential
• Experience in using tools for electromechanical works like metal plate bending and cutting machines, drilling machines, etc is essential
• Advanced knowledge of main components, instruments and equipment used within electrical/electronic circuits and their main functions
• Past experience with power converters in particle accelerators is a plus
• Good oral and written English skills are a prerequisite
• Experience of working in an international environment is essential
• Good balancing in managing autonomous work, versus close supervised work, in matters related to reporting and raising questions or concerns to the supervisor, is of great importance
• Motivation for challenging works, both in terms of schedule and technical complexity within the domain of activities and functions
• Efficient communication capabilities
• Team player and proactive attitude in helping the team and other colleagues achieving a common goal
