The Department of Computing at the School of Engineering within Jönköping University. The department is focused on research related to Human and Industrial AI as well as education in Computer Science and AI.
Working tasks
As a doctoral student at Jönköping University, the working time is devoted primarily to doctoral studies. This includes studying doctoral courses, participating in scientific conferences, publishing scientific papers, potentially writing a licentiate thesis and finally a doctoral dissertation.
As a doctoral student, you will conduct research on advanced data analytics for predictive maintenance, developing algorithms and methods for problems like anomaly detection and remaining useful lifetime estimation. An important focus will be on uncertainty quantification, using existing frameworks and developing new solutions to improve decision support.
In this research project will you as a doctoral student be involved in all of the research processes as follows:
- Develop and evaluate algorithms and methods for predictive maintenance.
- Develop and evaluate new and improved algorithms and methods for uncertainty quantification.
- Investigate the use of uncertainty quantification frameworks to support decision-making related to anomaly detection and remaining useful lifetime estimations.
- Develop algorithmic solutions and integrate them into software and processes.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Publish papers or articles in relevant conferences or journals.
- Your duties will also involve teaching in bachelor- and master-level courses.
The research will be done in close collaboration with industrial partners. Up to 20% of the working time may be allocated for teaching and administrative work.
Your profile
To be eligible for the position, you have a Master's degree or have achieved at least 240 credits/ECTS, of which a minimum of 60 credits/ECTS must have been achieved at the second cycle level, or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge in Sweden or abroad.
For you who are applying for the position, it is important to have a strong background in machine learning, data analytics, and statistics.
Furthermore, you should have:
- proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R
- experience in working with large datasets and data preprocessing.
To succeed and thrive in the role, we see it as necessary that you have good collaboration and communication skills, the ability to finish dedicated assignments/tasks on time and an excellent level of the English language, both written and oral, is expected.
It is meritorious if you have:
- documented experience of academic research
- industrial software development work experience
- proficiency in Swedish.
Information
We offer a fully financed full-time position which is limited in accordance with the applicable collective agreement for doctoral students. The start date of the employment is 2023-07-01 or according to an agreement.
Employment as a doctoral student normally covers five years, of which four years (80%) consist of full-time studies. The employment is extended annually based on the individual study plan. The salary is regulated according to a special doctoral student ladder.
