To work within the Vent-Axia New Products Development and In Markets team as a Design Engineer, generating solutions to product design problems from concept through to production, including CAD modelling (Autodesk Inventor), 2D drawing and analysis (e.g. FEA) skills. To carry out associated engineering and project tasks as required.
• Minimum 2 years CAD experience with Autodesk Inventor.
• Experience of designing ventilation devices or fluid handling machinery. Experience of designing domestic or commercial appliances, including both plastic and sheet metal components.
• Some experience of FEA and CFD software.
• Familiar with Drawing Management processes and Data Management systems.
• Experience in a product development role, designing for large batch and flow manufacture.
• Familiar with the CE Approvals process at an overview level. "X Qualified to HND level or higher in a relevant discipline.

Key Responsibilities
1. To always work in a safe manner without putting himself, colleagues or members of the public at risk.
2. To design ventilation equipment i.e. fans and heat recovery products. Creation of 3D CAD models of these designs using Autodesk Inventor.
To have experience at designing plastic injection moulded parts, some with complex curved shapes.
Design sheet metal components using the Inventor sheet metal environment. Build parts into assemblies, some complex, comprising of hundreds of components and many subassemblies.
Be able to orientate themselves within the various assembly and subassembly levels of such a complex assembly, and deal effectively with repairs to broken constraints that occur when changes are made to components.
Design of other components for the assemblies using a wide range of engineering materials, forming techniques and fastening methods, including EPS, EPP, vacuum formed plastic, insulation foam, and the design of air-tight seals.
To model cable runs in assemblies using the Inventor cable and harness environment. To create 2D part and assembly drawings to BS8888 based on the 3D designs.
3. To assemble physical prototypes of designs in the Crawley laboratory or the Dudley Factory.
4. To create bills of materials and work with additional data and documentation as required, including use of the MRP database.
5. To supply images and video animations for Instruction Manuals and Marketing purposes.
6. Together with Project Sponsors and Product Managers, to help define new product projects; the deliverables and the success criteria.
7. To assess suppliers drawings and models of proposed injection mould tooling with regard to its suitability for production.
8.To carry out FEA analysis and manage any sub-contracted FEA and CFD work.
9. To develop ¡V from concept to implementation - inventive, innovative, manageable and cost-effective solutions to product development briefs.
10. To deliver projects within time, cost and performance expectations. To plan, monitor and control workload and progress.
11. To work in a small team environment or to manage their own project(s).
12. To become a key member in the New Product Development environment.
13. Work with suppliers to co-ordinate project activities.
14. To keep aware of developments in relevant disciplines such as CAD related software and hardware. Undergoing further CAD training as required.
15. To carry out any other reasonable tasks as requested by the Lead Design Engineer.
To travel to customers and suppliers as required, including internationally on occasion.
16. To support or carry out activities at other Volution Group Companies as required.
