The British Embassy in Sweden is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are looking for a part-time Community Liaison Officer (CLO) to work closely with Embassy management for the well-being of UK-based staff and families

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
As a Community Liaison Officer (CLO), you will listen to UK-based staff and families, provide them with advice and guidance, and advocate for / support them on family and community issues, particularly in the areas of information gathering, welfare and communication.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Information gathering and reporting for UK-Based officers and their spouses/partners and families. To include information on spouse/partner employment; children's education (through completion of separate HR School and Nursery Information Sheets of authorised schools); childcare information; and completion of Diplomatic Service Family Association (DFSA) Spouse and Partner Annual Employment Report. You will play a key role updating the embassy's Welcome Pack, Post Hub and Fact Sheets, as well as other reports as required, with relevant information for diplomatic staff and/or for HQ, e.g. on medical facilities, accommodation, entertainment and other useful information for diverse stakeholders ensuring it is welcoming and inclusive.

• Welfare/Community/Support: you will play a key role in ensuring all staff arriving on a posting or on temporary duty, and their families, feel welcome and supported; and in ensuring as smooth an integration as possible into Sweden and the life of the Embassy community, following up to check that the settling in process is working. You will act as a discreet listening ear and an ongoing source of referral and support where questions, problems and difficulties arise. You will keep in touch with spouses and partners of UK-based staff, including through a WhatsApp group. When possible, you will organise relevant community events (e.g. coffee mornings, Easter egg hunts, Halloween party).

• Advocacy/Support: Advocate for UK-based staff and families in addressing issues of importance with Embassy management and with HQ, e.g. representing family interests and concerns on the embassy housing committee, and acting as the link between the Embassy and DSFA in London.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS
• Fluency in English (both oral and written, C1 level or above under the CEFR*);
• Minimum 1 year of work experience in customer service role;
• Familiar with living in Sweden (eg banking, transportation, and other living requirements);
• Interpersonal skills and an ability to work with people from any background;
• Communications skills, both in writing and orally;
• Good understanding of the issues faced by staff moving to live overseas;
• Good organisational and delivery skills;
• Able to handle personal information confidentially and with discretion;
• Able to work flexibly without close supervision.

DESIRABLE SKILLS
• Some knowledge of Swedish

This is a part time (15h a week) - the equivalent of 2 days a week, permanent position. The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance. The preliminary start date 26 August 2024.
