The Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Student Work Placement Programme offers an outstanding 12-month placement that immerses you in the world of innovative drug discovery. Accountabilities
We offer 12-month placements at AstraZeneca's Gothenburg site in Sweden for students from Swedish institutions. These placements provide an opportunity to apply ML/AI in an industrial setting. You will present your work to scientists and wider teams, improving your communication skills and developing a range of transferable skills. Placement students will be hosted in either the Molecular AI department, Data Science department, or the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and employed by AstraZeneca's Early Talent partner Kelly Services and Poolia AB.
Molecular AI:
Develop tools and models to accelerate drug discovery using machine learning, artificial intelligence, and molecular simulations.
Contribute to and improve existing open-source platforms for molecular design, property prediction, and synthesis planning.
Data Science & Advanced Analytics:
Develop a robust system for detecting disease progression using advanced computational models and data-driven techniques.
Apply time-series data like patient records, biological markers, and imaging scans for disease evolution monitoring.
Employ sophisticated algorithms to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies that signal disease advancement.
Centre for AI:
Craft the future of healthcare by developing brand-new AI systems that align with strategic priorities.
Partner with Therapy Areas to push the boundaries of science and investigate AI's potential to improve the drug pipeline.
Connect teams to AI systems, expertise, and education to empower them in their individual programs.
Placements:
You will be embedded in one of AstraZeneca's research teams working with world class scientists to deliver new medicines to patients. The majority of your time during the placement will be dedicated to a customized data science and AI project. You will be assigned a dedicated work placement Supervisor. You will have the opportunity to develop a range of transferable attributes including communication and presentation skills. You will also be given access to AstraZeneca's early talent network.

Essential Skills/Experience
Students in any data science and artificial intelligence aligned course at a Swedish University, with a BSc or MSc or equivalent experience.
Completion of at least two years of university education at the time of starting the placement, with plans to return to complete studies after the placement ends.
Performing at a high level, with the potential to achieve a pass with distinction.
Eligibility to work in Sweden for 12 months from September 2025 without additional work permits.
Ability to arrange a study break from your university education to participate in the programme.
Previous programming experience is important for those interested in the Molecular AI programme.

Additional Information:
Applications are now open until January 2025, with interviews to take place in March 2025. Start date 1st September 2025. Applications must be submitted in English.
