We are looking for a motivated Associate Principal Scientist or Senior Scientist, depending on your background, for Analytical Research in the Therapeutic Area Respiratory and Immunology (R&I). This role is placed at AstraZeneca's vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The Physical and Analytical Chemistry team at R&I Medicinal Chemistry (Gothenburg, Sweden) is working with a strong research focus to deliver project support on the delivery of Small Molecule (SM) and New Modalities (NM) clinical candidates. The analytical team
is operating in close collaboration with Medicinal Chemists and scientists in neighboring departments with a joint aim of discovery of the respiratory medicines of the future.
What you'll do
The position is lab based in an team of analytical experts supporting the Medicinal Chemistry of New Modalities in early drug discovery. The key analytical techniques in the team are LC-MS and NMR. The daily work within this role includes hands-on operation of LC-HRMS instruments and evaluation/processing of analytical data with the aim to support early drug discovery projects with state-of-the-art analytics. In addition, the work may also include characterization of other classes of molecules such as small molecules depending on portfolio needs. The role includes efficient handling of a variety of requests from early drug discovery, examples could be analytics of crude oligonucleotide libraries utilizing automated LC-MS workflows, or in depth characterization of peptide- or small molecule based oligonucleotide conjugates by LC-HRMS.
This position also includes the successful representation of analytical chemistry in project teams including efficient team work both within the project team and also across disciplines and functions with a problem-solving attitude and delivery focus.
Typical accountabilities in your daily work:
• Efficient advancement of AZ drug discovery portfolio by applying LC-HRMS methods
• Driving internal build of analytical methods for new modalities characterization
• Professional experience in the characterization of oligonucleotides and their conjugates is a plus
• Contribution to team delivery of MS based characterization of other modalities incl small molecules can be part of the role
• Effective collaboration with project team members and colleagues in Medicinal Chemistry and DMPK departments
Essential for the role
• PhD in Analytical Chemistry
• Documented expertise in high-resolution liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (both in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical expertise)
• Demonstrated expertise in MS characterization of small and large synthetic molecules by MS/MS CID, ETD and MALDI-MS is a significant bonus.
• Demonstrated professional expertise in structure elucidation by MS-MS is a plus
• Experience and knowledge of separation techniques beyond RP-UPLC (such as HILIC, ion-exchange chromatography, gel electrophoresis, capillary electrophoresis, and size exclusion chromatography) is a plus.
• Experience from digitalization of analytical workflows and automation is a bonus
• We expect strong scientific curiosity in novel technologies and methods and excellent communication and collaboration skills
