At Product Development (PD) Sweden, a division of Pharmaceutical Technology & Development, we focus on the fields of Immediate Release, Oral Controlled Release, New Modality, and Inhalation Drug Products for diverse therapeutic areas.
This is a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic, innovative and motivated scientist to join the Product Development teams at our site at AstraZeneca, Gothenburg. Join us and be an active member of a multi skilled group, working closely together with analysts, formulators, chemists and biologists in our common effort to drive the projects forward.
We are looking for you who are a senior expert in the field of solid state analysis and who combines the ability to be influential in discussions in a wide set of communities while still enjoying being in the lab and showing expertise in experimental work. In this role, you are expected to fulfil the description given below.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Acting as senior expert in the field of solid state analysis; coaching and support to other scientists, project reviews, being up to date with scientific development in the field.
Influencing solid state and formulation development in development projects for the clinical phase up to launch as well as an understanding of the implications of solid state on drug product, e.g. stability and manufacturability.
Continuous development of ways of working with solid state analysis.
Identifying improvements in science and technologies that can be successfully applied to contribute to achievement of business goals.
Acting as solid state expert in Product Development project teams; being involved in both strategic discussions as well as daily laboratory work; e.g. performing analyses, performing risk assessments and give recommendations on solid state forms, trouble-shooting, etc.
Identifying and establishing external collaborations.
External visibility e.g. by publishing, oral presentations at conferences.
Acting as project coordinator when appropriate - and as such also cover area of material science.
Essential Requirements
PhD in a relevant subject with several years of work experience is preferred.
Deep knowledge in relevant analytical techniques as well as computer-based methods, to assess salts and co-crystals, form selection, thermodynamic relationships between solid state forms.
Pharma experience and understanding of drug research and development processes is preferred.
Good communication and collaboration skills coupled with the ability to work to tight timelines.
Experience of technical supervision, coaching and mentoring or leading small teams of people or scientific projects.
High quality scientific research and writing in the solid state analysis field is advantageous.
