As a Pathologist in the Drug Safety and Metabolism department of AstraZeneca's Innovative Medicine & Early Development (IMED) unit, you will be helping to take new targets and molecules all the way from idea to licensing and beyond, supporting translational questions, efficacy testing, patient safety and regulatory requirements. You will be joining an outstanding global team of Pathologists and will have the opportunity to participate in cutting edge drug development in a multidisciplinary environment with strong collaborative culture.
We are looking for a talented, collaborative and highly motivated pathologist with experience in both experimental and toxicologic pathology to join our team in Gothenburg, Sweden, to support projects in the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease (CVMD) area covering diabetes, obesity and liver disease. In this role, a research background in this area including deep understanding of human metabolic disease biology, molecular mechanisms, and knowledge of relevant efficacy models is an important asset.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
As the Pathology expert metabolic diseases, you will be working closely with project leaders and colleagues in Drug Safety & Metabolism on project related issues such as target validation, efficacy testing, and safety risks. You will be expected to support innovation in metabolic disease and first in class treatment opportunities.
In particular, responsibilities will include:
* assessing safety and efficacy of novel compounds;
* contributing to study design, data interpretation and integration;
* evaluating the pathology portion of early safety studies;
* designing and evaluating mechanistic and investigative pathology studies;
* conducting hazard characterisation and risk assessment
* communicating findings and making recommendations to key stakeholders.
* Contributing to in vitro and in vivo disease model validation;
* Supporting Discovery research programs by providing a comparative and translational pathology view to projects, animal models and biomarkers;
Essential Requirements
* Doctor of Medicine/ Veterinary Medicine (MD/ DVM) or equivalent degree
* Residency or other specialty training in anatomic and/or toxicologic pathology
* Ph.D. in an aligned scientific field -Previous pharmaceutical /CRO /experimental pathology experience
Desirable Requirements
* Previous industry experience
* Post graduate pathology qualification/ certification (e.g. ACVP, ECVP, FRCPath)
* Experience in the evaluation of metabolic disease models or a research background with an emphasis on diabetes and liver disease would be an added benefit.
