The Challenge Ahead
• Serves as interface and ensures clear communication between Game Design, Art Direction, Lighting Dept. and Production Artists (including Art Leads)
• Helps translate the gameplay elements into world assets
• (Product) Owner of the level (both from a thematic, content and optimization standpoint)
• Ensures that the high-level vision set by Art Direction and concept art is maintained

Primary Requirements

• Have a passion for both art and game design.
• Be able to hold a vision for an area both visually and from a game design perspective
• Be able to communicate the vision effectively to others
• Be able to collaborate with Art Direction, Management and additional stakeholders
• Be able to work iteratively and react well to feedback
• Ability to solve design problems creatively and be solution orientated
• Be able to source appropriate reference materials and present them as briefs or in a verbal presentation
• Produce paper designs, maps, guides, walkthroughs etc.
• Source and collate references
• Be proficient in PS or other industry standard packages
• Be proficient in Maya or other industry standard packages
• Be able to block out worlds/levels to varying degrees of complexity.
• Identify and produce white box assets
• Identify and produce more detailed proxy assets where needed
• Define key landmarks and structures
• Define overall level composition
• Define gameplay areas (drivable spaces)
• Be responsible for set dressing and ensure levels meet shippable standards for art and gameplay regarding asset placement.
• Set up gameplay infrastructure Collisions, events etc.
• initial setup, sculpting, painting, maintenance and optimization of terrain
• Take an active part in level reviews and play-through and collaborate across disciplines
• Create detailed briefs for distributed development
• Help to finalise Environments/Plots/Infrastructure assets
• Provide feedback and support for distributed teams
• Responsible for disseminating/fixing all bugs for owned levels
• Work in conjunction with the tech art team to ensure level performs from a technical standpoint

Secondary Skills

• Be able to visualize areas through sketches, concepts, photo-bash, paint-overs, 3d mock ups
• Be able to present and communicate ideas to wider groups
• Interested in skill development, training and R&D.
