VAT Compliance Manager at Sony, Lund, Sweden

The VAT Compliance Manager will supervise and review the day to day work of four VAT Controllers and one VAT Expert as well as providing day to day VAT technical support to the business.

There are two key fields of responsibility:

1. VAT reporting

Responsible for statutory VAT reporting in Sweden and approximately 20 other countries including submission of VAT/GST returns, Overseas VAT Refund claims, EC Sales Lists, EC Purchase lists (as required) and Intrastat Declarations.Review VAT returns prepared by VAT Controllers/Expert for completeness and accuracy and sign off in timely manner to ensure compliance with VAT return deadlines. Ensure timely submissions, payments where necessary, and obtaining repayments, in compliance with VAT SOX processes. Supervise the reconciliation and netting off of VAT accounts by the VAT Controllers.Contribute to a review of the VAT compliance reporting processes for all Sony Mobile VAT registrations in Europe region looking at all relevant options and recommending most appropriate solution for the business going forward.

2. VAT technical support

Supervise the effective response of the business to VAT audits and inquiries and the preparation of voluntary disclosures and appeals as necessary.Provide effective VAT advice to colleagues in the business on VAT implications for business flows, structuring and other issues as required and using the VAT Controllers/Expert as a resource to assist.Identify and implement efficiencies in the business system to minimise VAT costs to Sony Mobile and using the VAT Controllers/Expert as a resource to assist.Deliver training to business divisions, according to need; to ensure reporting information flowing to VAT team is as accurate as possible and using the VAT Controllers/Expert as a resource to assist.Raise awareness of the importance and relevance of VAT within the business.Provide motivation and support to the VAT Controllers/Expert to ensure the team meets its wider objectives of timely and accurate VAT compliance, maximising efficiencies in SAP to minimise VAT costs to Sony Mobile, whilst complying with VAT SOX processes at all times.Identify, document, test and review the VAT treatment of business flows as required, including liaising with VAT systems analyst and supporting testing of changes or new business flow implementations

Professional experience required

General appreciation of VAT rules in Europe and more widely and their implications for the businessExperience of ideally 5-8 years in Indirect Tax complianceExperience of managing a TeamExperience of working across a European business within multi-cultural working environmentExperience of consensus based decision makingAccounting skillsExperience of SAPExperience and / or understanding of consumer & business technology industryExcellent English language (written and spoken)Additional language skills would be preferred but not essentialWillingness to travel within Europe as job requires (short business trips)
