How can you contribute?
DIT Europe has a GREAT opportunity for a confident, motivated and experienced Trade Manager to provide strategic direction for trade development in Sweden, working with colleagues across Europe North and other European markets.
The TM role will oversee the trade team and its shared goals and targets whilst leading and delivering the Defence & Security sector work. Identify Swedish opportunities through research and engaging with local contacts, stakeholders, organisations etc. Develop a range of activities under the Nordic Baltic Defence and Security campaign to match the needs of the market with UK expertise. Assist companies to win business in market. You will provide guidance, coaching and management to the trade team and will have direct line management responsibilities for 3 Senior Trade Advisers.
There will also be a focus on collaborative working with colleagues across the Embassy - on policy, science & innovation and tourism. The work will be varied and demanding and the successful candidate will need to be a flexible, committed self-starter, able to juggle priorities and to work on demanding timelines.
Your key responsibilities:
Knowledge: Ensure awareness of sectors is up to date and ready to provide advice to a range of stakeholders. Developing and maintaining a national network of contacts and deliver market entry activities for UK companies. This may include market research, organisation of events and visit programmes etc.
Lead: Successfully lead the Defence & Security campaign for Sweden and the Nordic Baltic region.
Coach: Oversee the trade team to ensure targets are met and ensuring a quality service for UK companies. Line manage 3 Senior Trade Advisers. Support DIT Director and cover during times of absence.
Essential qualifications and experience, A GREAT candidate will:
• Have excellent Swedish and English language skills (C1 level or above under the CEFRL or equivalent)
• Have a University degree in Business/Economics or applicable subject;
• Have solid experience managing a team;
• 5 years of Business development experience;
• Be able to build rapport at all levels internally and externally;
• Be reliable and respond proactively to changing priorities;
• Understand and focus on customer needs.
Desirable qualifications and experience, It is a plus if you:
• Have an open and flexible approach to new ideas to improve result;
• Enthusiastic about personal development;
• Open to change and innovation;
• Respond flexibly to changing priorities with the ability to see the bigger picture and links between own work and that of others within the organisation;

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), fixed term position with a duration of 12 months, with a possibility of extension.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance.
