The section Wheel suspension and steering is one of five sections within the department Vehicle Control and Chassis at Volvo Cars. The wheel suspension team is responsible for development of front, rear and active wheel suspension systems. We handle all phases of the development; annual work, advanced engineering, concept development, industrialisation and current model quality. We work in an X-functional work process with Design, Product Planning and the development units within R&D.
We are now looking for a Technical Expert - Wheel suspension. In this position, you will work closely with the system and component responsible engineers at wheel suspension as well as attribute leaders at R&D. A big challenge is to continue to improve current technologies, working methods, define new, and minimize dependency of physical testing.
You will also support and strengthen Volvo Cars as a Luxury Brand Manufacturer and support the company long term strategies and targets. You will provide deep knowledge of current situation on the market and future expectation regarding wheel suspension. You will provide technical expertise about wheel suspension for corporate management, engineering and suppliers. You will also provide technical expertise to design engineers to support specific root cause understanding and the development of generic design strategies for design improvements.
Main responsibilities
* Responsible for a documented Vision, Mission & Strategy within wheel suspension passive and active system area including
* A benchmark report covering competitors, suppliers, new tools and methods
* Technical Cycle Plan.
* Initiate Research work to improve current technologies, working methods, define new, and minimise dependency of physical testing
* Secure the implementation of new technologies by initiating and supervise Advanced Engineering and external projects
* Support concept studies
* Represent the company in the area of expertise at internal and external technology meetings.
* Contribute proactively with engineering guidance
* Support in contacts with suppliers
* Secure succession by proactively provide mentoring, coaching, etc.
* Deliver education material and carry through education within TS area. Internal as well as external
* Act as the application expert in the area of wheel suspension
* Develop and maintain relations with universities through supervision of doctorate programs, thesis works etc.
* Proactively participate in seminars, conferences and conventions
* On request support the company on press events, interviews, etc
Required qualifications
* Minimum Engineering Diploma on master level
* At least 10 years of experience in chassis/wheel suspension development including all development stages from research to Advanced Engineering, concept and industrialisation.
* Experience in Vehicle Dynamics and NVH development
* Deep knowledge in active chassis system is preferred
* Solid knowhow of virtual development
* Demonstrated personal contribution in development of advanced technologies in the area of wheel suspension
* Recognized leadership in wheel suspension development
* Personal contribution to VCC/industry/world first
* Demonstrated capability and willingness to teach/coach/mentor and document technical knowledge
* Demonstrated high level of communication skills and teamwork
* Demonstrated initiative & capability to provide leadership/support to peers & management, within the technical area of wheel suspension development
* Ability to lead a team in the delivery of technical objectives
* Published technical publications, technical reports
