As Team Manager for Applied Mechanics you will be provided a highly visible role at our Technology Consulting department at Corporate Research. In this role you will plan, coordinate and carry out experimental or simulation activities together with around 20 engineers and scientists in the team. You will execute these tasks together with your colleagues and report your findings to customers as well as assist in the resolving of technical issues. Beyond taking part in varying and challenging tasks, we will offer you the opportunity to take on a role where you will have a lot of freedom and take responsibility for your work and the group's continued evolvement.
Talent management will be a crucial part of this role, where you will recruit new experts as well as coach and develop our highly skilled personnel. You will actively participate in the T department's management team where you will have a vital role in the implementation of the ongoing consulting strategy work as well as driving quality and OHS work according to the highest standards. Relationship building is another important part of this position, aiming to further develop our cooperation with strategic business units and customers and leading academic institutions within the mechanics field. Our stimulating work environment also contains a large network of technical partners and frequent customer contacts. The Team Manager role is estimated to make up 50% of your time, which means that there will be opportunities to work as project manager or researcher within your area of expertise.
You hold a Ph.D. or Master's Degree in, Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Physics, as well as broad technical background consisting of ten years' work experience. To be successful in this role, you need strong leadership skills and the ability to coach senior scientists, project leaders and researchers. It is equally important to establish and maintain good working spirit and to foster a business- and result-oriented approach. LEAN, operational excellence, business acumen and PnL experience is beneficial. Equally important is your negotiation skills and the fact that you are reliable, organized and analytic. Interpersonal skills are also highly valued.
Knowledge of work environment management and ISO standards will also be beneficial. You need to be fluently in English and Swedish, written and spoken alike.
Corporate Research in Västerås is the largest ABB research center. We have principal responsibility for research and development in automation technology and shared responsibility for power technologies.
In this role you will be leading the Applied Mechanics team. We provide expertise in applied mechanics to ABB Business units worldwide and work across the whole range of ABB products including breakers, transformers, cables and motors. The continuous development of ABB products and systems spawns ongoing R&D activities within the group.
Our activities include long-term R&D projects and short-term assignments. We have core competences within the areas of vibration, contact mechanics, structural dynamics, fatigue, constitutive behavior of metals and polymers, large deformations and advanced analysis of complex structures.
We have in-house access to extensive testing capabilities in solid mechanics as well as a modern computational cluster for advanced modeling.
