TEACHER: Secondary Swedish Language and Literature, and Swedish Language Acquisition

REPORTS TO: the Principal

Duties/Responsibilities:

The teacher is responsible for the following:

• Teaching of Grades 9 to 12 Swedish Language and Literature, and Swedish Language Acquisition

• Contributing to the development and implementation of the curriculum.

• Communicating regularly with parents.

• Be an active and contributing member of the School's faculty.

• Participating in the full range of professional activities in the school.

• Actively contributing to the operational needs of the school.

Qualifications, Attributes and Experience the teacher is expected to have:

• Teaching qualification.

• Qualifications in the area of Swedish Language Acquisition.

• Experience as a teacher.

• Excellent communication skills.

• The ability to establish rapport with adults and students.

• The ability to work effectively in a team

• A pleasant and friendly personality.

• The ability to function effectively under pressure.

• The ability to show initiative and work independently.

Aligned with the recommendations of the International Task Force on Child Protection, we hold ourselves to a high standard of effective recruiting practices with specific attention to child protection. Included in the recruitment process will be a local and national police check as well as a mandatory police background check from the last year of employment in every country worked.

It would be desirable for the successful applicant to have a working knowledge of the the IB Diploma and Middle Years Programmes or their equivalent. Experience working with students from diverse cultures and countries would be an advantage.

Founded in 1951 and operating as a foundation since 2011, Stockholm International School is here to serve the children of the international community as well as Swedish citizens looking for an international education. The school is an independent, open-admission, co-educational Kindergarten to Grade 12 day school governed by a Board of Trustees. All instruction is in English. The educational program is modeled after the International Baccalaureate (IB) guidelines. The school year is mid-August to mid-June and has a minimal instructional period of 180 days divided into two semesters. The school has enjoyed strong academic success and is going through a stage of rapid expansion.
