The project includes the most powerful linear proton accelerator ever built, a five-tonne, helium-cooled tungsten target wheel, 15 state-of-the-art neutron instruments, a suite of laboratories, and a supercomputing data management and software development centre. In the context of its history and future as a scientific organisation, however, it is more than the sum of its parts. It is a brand-new Big Science organisation and we are building it from the ground up.
Come and build the future of science with us!
About the role
We are now looking to appoint a System Reliability Engineer to our Controls Infrastructure Group, within our IT Division. The System Reliability Engineer will work in a functional unit consisting of five members of staff. The team is tight-knit, collaborative and supportive.
Tasks and responsibilities include:

• Installation, monitoring and troubleshooting of computing and distributed storage hardware and software.
• Automation of software deployment and computing infrastructure configuration.
• Extension and full coverage of the Monitoring and alerting system.
• Support of the computing operations in conjunction with other teams.
This is a 3-year fixed term position with the possibility of extension to permanent employee, based in Lund, Sweden. You have several years of experience with the tasks listed above, and you are comfortable with the Linux command line interface (CLI). You possess a good understanding of computer and server hardware and have knowledge in the following domains: networking, remote server management (redfish, IPMI), OS-level security, system performance metrics, and monitoring using typical cloud tools such as Grafana, OpenSearch, Prometheus, etc. You have managed web services, are familiar with container technologies such as Docker and/or Kubernetes, and have used virtualisation technologies (Proxmox, oVirt, KVM, or VMware, etc.).
You will be given the opportunity to learn what you do not know yet; we therefore value curiosity and the willingness to learn new and unfamiliar topics.
To thrive in this role, we believe that you enjoy communicating and collaborating with people from various backgrounds and areas of expertise. You enjoy finding and suggesting new solutions in a dynamic environment. With multiple projects, you also have the ability to plan and organise your work. • An opportunity to contribute to the future discoveries within neutron science.
