KI Biobank
The KI Biobank is a core facility hosted by MEB and its purpose is to provide professional sample and data services for world-class medical research that improves healthcare and public health.
The purpose of KI Biobank is to provide professional sample and data services for world-class medical research that improves healthcare and public health. The facility typically serves defined research studies that collect and use samples or manage sample-related data. After over ten years of steady growth the biobank now holds samples and related data from half a million Swedish residents. It is vital that our work is done to high ethical standards and an important duty is maintaining full compliance with relevant laws. To manage this operation effectively we have recently upgraded our laboratory data systems to a very advanced level. We now need to ensure that it is sustainable, highly effective and can be further developed to meet evolving needs and opportunities.
Duties
The purpose of this role is to take overall responsibility for the maintenance and development of the IT systems that support the laboratory operations of the KI biobank. This includes the databases, laboratory information management system (LIMS), enterprise service bus (ESB), equipment control systems and IT architecture.
The role-holder will:
• gain a thorough understanding of the laboratory systems, processes and automation;
• identify the most important development and maintenance needs of laboratory IT systems;
• take responsibility for development of the laboratory IT systems;
• ensure good maintenance and support of the laboratory IT systems;
• together with biobank leadership, develop an IT strategy that serves the longer term needs of the biobank business units and its key partners;
• collaborate with other relevant staff within and outside the biobank on development and use of the laboratory IT systems;
• programming and trouble-shooting laboratory automation;
• working with other IT staff within and outside the biobank to assure security and compliance;
• developing user training and awareness workshops; and
• reporting data for statistics and invoicing.
Entry requirements
Educational background that is required: BSc/MSc degree in computer science or similar.
Experience and knowledge that is required:
• At least 3-5 years experience creating Java-driven Web Applications
• Must be adept in Java, J2EE architecture, JavaScript, JSP, DHTML/Web Page development including client-side scripting to add major functionality existing and future framework
• Domain knowledge of laboratory practices and/or LIMS experience
• Other skills include: SOAP webservices implementation; JBoss; Ajax; JQuery; JSON; XML scripting languages; Maven experience; SOAP UI Tool; Intellij Idea or Eclipse; XSLT; and XSD
• Strong relational database knowledge and experience using either Oracle and/or SQL Server
• Web service implementation (eg SOAP, JBoss, XML scripting)
• Good language skills in Swedish and English, spoken and written

• Must be able to intelligently present and defend ideas to peers
• Self-motivated and able to direct own work and decisions
• Good problem solving skills

• Stable and able to cope with changing demands, work-load and occasional stress
