hela Sverige Are you passionate about leading transformative projects and eager to shape the future of sustainable steel production? SSAB is looking for an ambitious Cost Control Engineer to join us on our exciting journey. At SSAB, we are committed to sustainability and aim to eliminate all CO2 emissions by 2030. This position is based in Luleå, Sweden.
Becoming part of the SSAB family means joining a journey. A journey that we believe is essential for the sustainability of this planet. Steel has been one of the most important materials for developing our society and it will continue to be so. In the roofs over our heads, in the bridges connecting our cities and in the cars of tomorrow. At SSAB we are proud of our history and leadership in high-strength steel. But we are also aware that the production of steel is one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases in the world. That has to change. That is why we have developed the world's first fossil free steel production and has committed to becoming largely fossil-free by around 2030. As part of SSAB you will be instrumental in realizing this goal and push for the green transformation of the whole steel industry.
About the position
We are looking for a Lead Cost Controller who thrives in a dynamic environment and brings deep expertise in cost control within large-scale construction projects. In this role, you'll be at the heart of our project organization, working alongside project managers, engineers, and key stakeholders to ensure our construction efforts stay on budget, on time, and aligned with strategic goals.
This role requires a deep understanding of cost management principles, construction processes, work breakdown structures, and sustainable industrial practices. You will work closely with project teams, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to track costs, manage budgets and forecasts, mitigate financial risks, and contribute to the overall financial performance of the project. We are around 80 people in the project (exclusive consultants) and a great blend of different cultures and experienced people with passion for huge capex projects.
Main responsibilities
Take ownership of cost estimation and budgeting for major construction areas.
Build and maintain detailed cost structures and ensure full cost visibility throughout the project lifecycle.
Monitor actuals vs. budget, forecast future costs, and drive proactive corrective actions.
Engage with contractors and suppliers to validate invoicing and performance.
Analyze cost trends and support decision-making with clear, actionable insights.
Collaborate across departments - including project management, procurement, risk, and finance - to ensure seamless cost integration.
Contribute to audits, assessments, and the continuous improvement of cost management processes.
About You
A degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
At least 8 years of experience in cost control and project cost management, ideally in the construction or industrial sector.
Strong knowledge of construction cost methodologies and project lifecycle management.
Confidence using cost tools and Excel for budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
Excellent communication and analytical skills - you can translate complex data into clear recommendations.
A collaborative mindset and the ability to influence across functions and levels.
