Learning support teachers focus on the provision of supplementary
teaching to pupils who require additional help. They work with pupils in
groups or one-to-one, either in the classroom or in a learning support
room. Their work involves planning and implementing effective teaching
strategies, differentiation, and liaising with parents, staff and other
relevant professionals.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Planning and implementing IEP's
• Collaborate with the classroom teacher to target and set strategies
and accommodations needed by the identified students
• Helping pupils to cope with and overcome problems that arise
because of learning difficulties through mentoring, after-school
help, push-in or pull-out assistance.
• Developing and fostering the appropriate skills and social abilities
to enable the optimum development of pupils.
• Encouraging students to develop self-confidence and
independence, and to reach their potential.
• Adapting the IPC, MYP, or DP program and conventional teaching
methods to meet individual needs.
• Using audio-visual instructional materials and computers to
stimulate interest and learning.
• Assessing and documenting children's progress.
• Working as a team-member within the Department and wider
school staff and liaising with other relevant individuals such as
educational psychologists, parents and other specialists that
composes a multidisciplinary team.
• Provide professional development and classroom strategies to
teachers that will uplift the classroom performance as much as the
student achievements.
• Possibility to provide programs and interventions for students on
the other end of the continuum (gifted and talented)
• Mature and flexible accepting constant changes in the Department
with regards to scheduling and duties due to the demand in the
school set-up
Required Qualifications:
• Post-graduate degree and work experience as a Special Education
Learning Support Teacher.
• Self-motivation, organisation, creativity and enthusiasm are vital
qualities in the role.
• Experience in working with and awareness of local laws.
• Experience working in an international school environment.
• Excellent communication, collaboration and organizational skills.
• A strong ability to establish good rapport with students and adults.
• An ability to maintain confidentiality.
• An ability to view students with unconditional positive regard.
• An ability to show initiative and to work independently.
• Ability to administer assessments.
• Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking)
Desired Skills and Experience:
• Experience with IPC, MYP and/or DP Programs.
• Fluent in Swedish (reading, writing, speaking)

Founded in 1951 and operating as a foundation since 2011, Stockholm International School is here to serve the children of the international community as well as Swedish citizens looking for an international education. The school is an independent, open-admission, co-educational Kindergarten to Grade 12 day school governed by a Board of Trustees. All instruction is in English. The educational program is modeled after the International Baccalaureate (IB) guidelines. The school year is mid-August to mid-June and has a minimal instructional period of 180 days divided into two semesters. The school has enjoyed strong academic success and is going through a stage of rapid expansion.
