The Active Safety department has been one of the fastest growing parts of Volvo Car Group over the last decade due to rapid development of Active Safety systems and functionality. By continuously launching innovative and world first Active Safety features, Volvo Cars has positioned itself among the leaders in the automotive industry. Now, the work towards achieving our vision that by 2020 no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo continues with autonomous driving as the next step forward.

The Sensor Fusion & Software Integration group is one of four groups in the section Active Safety and Vehicle Dynamics Functions. The group consists of teams that have a supportive role to the whole section, e.g. Sensor Fusion Architects, Map & Cloud Architects, SW Leaders, SW Integration Engineers, SW Quality Engineers and System Safety Engineers.

We are now hiring Sensor Fusion Performance System Designers with various experience, i.e. we are hiring for both Senior and Junior roles.

Main responsibilities

You help defining the "the eyes and ears" of our cars and participate in defining which sensors are needed, what they are required to detect and when (such as cameras, RADAR's, LIDAR's, ultrasonic sensors, accelerometers, etc.).

As a Senior Designer, you also help to balance the need of increased confidence by combining different sensor inputs by data fusion when needed. One of your responsibilities will be to balance the sensor and fusion system solution as well as writing and releasing requirements and documentation, supporting the sensor development in these areas. In this work, you need to have a close collaboration with the Function Owners and the sensor teams within Active Safety as well as other stakeholders such as sensor suppliers and our SW Partner Zenuity in all phases of the Active Safety and Autonomous Drive projects.

You will also work to define strategies and new technology steps / advanced engineering within the area together with the Sensor & Fusion Development Team Leader.

Required qualifications

* M.Sc. Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Science or equivalent
* Senior role: 5-7 years of work experience in product development (automotive or other applicable)
* Senior role: 3-5 years of work experience with different types of sensors such as cameras, RADAR's, LIDAR's, ultrasonic sensors or sensor data fusion

Personal requirements

Strong in inclusion and team focus, communicative and brave, open to bring up your own opinion and ideas to ensure that we jointly create the best solution for the team. Passionate about cars and the opportunity to make the automotive community safer by developing our next generation of cars. Innovative and open to new ways of working together such as agile mind-sets. Have a problem-solving oriented approach. Be able to collect small pieces of information, understand how the pieces correlate to each other and put them together to create a complete picture.

Possibilities of development

The Sensor Fusion Performance team is the sensor hub where team management and collaboration skills are evidently important. As a team member, you will work in a global environment and will be able to develop team interaction and leadership skills in a culturally diverse team.

In the Senior role, strategy development for the area is also included. This will provide an opportunity for connections in other strategic areas within Volvo Cars, as well as standardization networks, etc.
