The Senior Security Software Engineer I reports to the Director, Security Software Engineering in the SPEAR Automation team. Part of the Secure Product Engineering & Anti-Cheat Response (SPEAR) department at EA, the SPEAR Automation team builds tools that directly protect fair play across our games.
As a Senior Security Software Engineer I, your primary job will be to help our teams operate and integrate security tools at scale. To do this, you will develop a portfolio of security and anti-cheat automation tools, and build them into a scalable platform that allows software development teams to embed security into the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) with low friction and high efficiency. You will also assist other SPEAR and EA Security teams by developing scripts, applications, tools and workflows that support their aims, and by integrating their own tools into our automation platform. You'll be a builder, comfortable in your IDE of choice, willing to write code and create security automations, and you'll be happy to get stuck in and solve tricky problems. Your important and visible work will help protect our games and services, our data, and, most importantly, our players.
Responsibilities
Lead the design, engineering, deployment, and long-term ownership of security automation tools and platforms that allow EA Security, SPEAR, and studio development teams to operate securely at high speed and scale
Architect solutions that integrate across multiple security and game development systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and usability
Define and gather metrics that demonstrate the effectiveness and adoption of security tools, and use data to drive continuous improvement
Partner with game studio development teams to deeply understand their practices and deliver seamless integration experiences
Provide technical mentorship and guidance to other engineers on the team, helping to elevate overall technical quality
Collaborate with EA Security and SPEAR leaders to evaluate and select technologies, and influence the technical roadmap to address emerging threats and opportunities
Requirements
Deep knowledge of secure development practices and strong familiarity with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
Proven experience in several of the following: scalable platform architecture, DevSecOps practices, application security tooling (e.g. SAST, DAST, SCA), or large-scale software engineering
Proficiency in one or more programming/scripting languages (e.g. Python, C#, Java, Go, bash, or PowerShell), with the ability to contribute across multiple languages as needed
Hands-on experience with containerisation (Kubernetes, Docker) and cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure)
Strong background in Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation) and CI/CD automation (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub Actions)
Demonstrated ability to design and deliver APIs, integrations, and automation workflows at scale
Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with a track record of delivering robust solutions
Ability to influence technical direction, prioritise effectively, and work with stakeholders at multiple levels
A passion for gaming and building tools that make a real impact on player security and fair play
Desirable
Experience in user interface development, UX design, or working with modern JavaScript frameworks (Angular, React, Vue)
Experience with both relational (MSSQL/MySQL) and non-relational (e.g. DynamoDB, MongoDB) databases
Contributions to open-source projects or security tooling communities
Degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience
