Arena

Central for success of the R&I iMed, is to ensure that projects have a clear line of sight from target selection all the way to clinical development and that translation exist between preclinical experiments and clinical studies. Instrumental for this is the Biosciences Department in which we have now an opening for a Senior Research Scientist in the Response Biomarker Team. One of the main objectives of the team is to support projects with a set of appropriate Biomarkers which provide an integrated set of data around the compound and target throughout all phases in discovery and development.

Job Purpose

To design, develop and conduct experiments to support Translational Science aspects of project with particular reference to creating and implementing a Biomarker Strategy. The Biomarker Strategy of a project describes biomarkers for patient selection, target occupancy, target mechanism, physiological response, path physiology and clinical outcome, and ensures translation between pre-clinical findings and clinical plans.

To be lab-based, propose experimental strategies, troubleshoot problems and to make a significant contribution to the practical delivery of projects in accordance with safety requirements and in compliance with all AZ Corporate responsibility policies.

Accountabilities

To drive and support the development of assays allowing analysis of Biomarkers in a variety of clinical samples using state of the art technologies and innovative thinking
To validate assays and perform Biomarker analysis within required timelines
To support the analysis and interpretation of Biomarker data sets
To provide Translational Science input such as Biomarker strategies to projects throughout all phases of Discovery and early Clinical Development
May act as a Translational Representative in a project team and/or may lead an early project
To independently design, conduct and analysis experiments by incorporating the views of others
To maintain an awareness of current developments in the literature
To acts as a mentor, coach and role model for research scientists
To be an effective team member in supporting Drug Discovery Projects to meet their objectives
Responsible for ensuring that their scientific knowledge influences project progression in accordance with portfolio priorities
To achieve personal scientific visibility through project contributions, internal presentations and publications
