hela Sverige Do you have expertise in the area of biophysics and enjoy working in a lab-based role? Would you like to apply your expertise in SPR biosensor technologies to underpin chemistry library design and synthesis with biophysical binding data within in a company that follows the science and turns ideas into life changing medicines? Then AstraZeneca might be the place for you!
At AstraZeneca in Gothenburg - Sweden, we are looking for a Senior Research Scientist to join our Biophysics team as part of the global Mechanistic & Structural Biology Department.
The Mechanistic & Structural Biology Department is working within Discovery Sciences (DS) - meaning you will play an important part in providing high quality hits, leads and drug candidates to AstraZeneca project teams. Discovery Sciences is a multi-faceted department that validates and integrates targets from genomics research and drives early drug discovery across AstraZeneca 's global Research and Development portfolio. Does this sound like your next challenge?
What you will do:
This is a laboratory-based position focusing on supporting drug discovery projects with biophysical binding data of small-molecule compounds from large synthetic libraries using surface plasmon resonance (SPR e.g., Biacore) and/or grating-coupled interferometry (CGI e.g., Wave). You will work with method development, implementation and process optimization of biophysical screening approaches using biosensors/surface-based techniques whilst designing routes and considering risk mitigation strategies to accomplish project goals.
Analysis, interpretation and presentation of data to cross functional teams is included in your accountabilities. As well as representing the biophysical function at project interfaces to support project initiation, you will also be intimately involved in lead generation activities and medicinal chemistry design.
Essential for the role:
* PhD in biochemistry or biophysics (or equivalent education) with a strong understanding of protein chemistry and demonstrated experience working both independently and collaboratively in a laboratory environment.
* Extensive working knowledge and small molecule experience with biosensing approaches like surface plasmon resonance (SPR e.g., Biacore) and/or grating-coupled interferometry (CGI e.g., Wave) demonstrated through the delivery of innovative solutions ideally in a drug discovery setting.
* A strong interest in data analysis, assay design, troubleshooting and non-standard fitting methods.
* Deep understanding of the characterization of protein-ligand interactions by biophysical methods.
* Excellent track record of publications and/or conference presentations.
To be successful in this position we also see that you have good social and communication skills, enjoy a collaborative working environment and act as a strong team player. You should also be able to work independently and have a positive, goal oriented and problem-solving attitude. English is required, both spoken and written, and good organizational skills are of use.
Desirable for the role:
* Technical knowledge outside area of expertise may include (but is not limited to): ITC, NMR, DSF, computational chemistry tools, fragment-based drug discovery.
* Skilled in managing multiple projects with clear understanding of project needs to ensure delivery of high-quality data with clear communication of timelines and working accurately and with attention to detail.
* Familiarity with general laboratory automation (including liquid handlers) and LIMS/information technologies.
