The R&D department at Seco is responsible for product development from powders to finished product in order to meet our mission: To develop the future of cemented carbides. We are now looking for a Senior R&D Professional to join our cemented carbide development team, being responsible for Metallurgy and Materials Design. This position offers you a high level of advanced research, including experimental opportunities and the possibility to be innovative in a creative industrial environment, as well as access to a large global network - both within the Sandvik Group and externally.
While the location of this position is flexible, presence in Fagersta is required at least three days per week. Occasional travel is required in this position, within Sweden as well as internationally.
Key performance areas
In this position, you are part of a highly competent and supporting team of doctors and engineers with different areas of expertise. Your responsibilities as Senior R&D Professional are to develop and test new materials and material compositions; working closely together with Product Development and our customers, to manage internal projects and external projects in collaboration with universities around Europe. You continually develop your own knowledge within your area of expertise as you capture and develop new ideas and apply them in a way that adds value to the business. In addition, you share skills and best practices and support colleagues in professional growth while taking responsibility for our abilities to deliver.
Your profile
We are looking for someone with a degree in Materials Science, Materials Design, Engineering Physics or Chemistry. Experience from the metal industry is an advantage, especially from cemented carbides, as well as knowledge of different experimental evaluation methods; e.g. light optical microscopy and electron microscopy. Knowledge of tools for thermodynamic calculations, such as Thermo-Calc and Dictra, is considered a plus. Since we work in an international environment, you have a high level of communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing, while knowledge in Swedish is a plus.
We place great value on your personal qualities in this recruitment, characterized by your creative and problem-solving ways, your innovative thinking and your structured working methods. You set ambitious targets, deliver on promises and take responsibility for your performance in this independent position. With a passion for research and materials development, in combination with your interpersonal skills, you share your expertise with both colleagues and other parts of the organization. Furthermore, you interact with numerous contacts and stakeholders, both internally and externally, and you understand the importance of clear communication and building trustworthy, long-lasting relationships.
We actively work to create a workplace that is characterized by diversity and inclusion.
