The School of Global Studies (SGS) is an innovative university environment for research and education in globalization and global issues. We seek a person who would find it stimulating to work in a dynamic, international and interdisciplinary setting.

Subject area description
Human ecology is a social science based, environmental science, which studies the interactions between human societies and their natural environments. The key issues of the subject include how humans impact and exploit their environment and how local and global ecosystems set limits to human activities. Research in human ecology aims to provide the necessary knowledge regarding both the causes of today's environmental problems, as well as the social organization and technology needed to achieve sustainable development.
Other topics in human ecology include how culture, power relations, strategies and worldviews affect the conditions for sustainable development, as well as how environmental problems interact with other social problems such as poverty, inequality and unsustainable resource use. Studies in human ecology are based upon different time and spatial scales and often have a focus on both historical and contemporary connections between local and global conditions.
Human ecology applies an interdisciplinary approach that bridges traditional disciplinary boundaries within and between the social sciences, humanities, the natural- and technical sciences, and their surrounding society. This provides a transdisciplinary knowledge base that integrates research-based approaches with practice-based experiences, both of which are instrumental in contributing to a sustainable society.
