Reference number PAR 2024/990
The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 56 000 students and 6 600 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The Department of Community Medicine and Public Health, at the Institute of Medicine, conducts extensive teaching and research in global public health, general medicine, occupational medicine, environmental medicine, social medicine, drug use and drug policy. We also conduct teaching and research in nutritional epidemiology, insurance medicine, innovation and utilisation, health economics, biostatistics and registry epidemiology.
We are now looking for a senior lecturer to help further develop our research and teaching in epidemiology, with a particular focus on register-based research. Register epidemiology aims to optimise the use of register data to benefit health care through interdisciplinary collaboration and cooperation. We have a close collaboration between research and education. Many of our researchers are also involved in our education programmes and teach on our international master's programmes, in our stand-alone courses and in the vocational healthcare programmes at Sahlgrenska Academy.
Subject area
Epidemiology and registry research with special focus on pulmonary medicine
Subject area description
Scientific discipline that studies the occurrence, distribution and causes of health-related conditions in the population. It aims to identify factors that influence health and the spread of diseases in order to lay the foundation for improving public health. Usually, quantitative methods are used to measure and analyse disease prevalence and associations between different exposures (e.g. lifestyle factors, environmental exposures) and health outcomes. A central part of epidemiology involves the design of observational studies (such as cohort studies or case-control studies) to identify risk factors and experimental and quasi-experimental studies to study the effects of health interventions (such as the introduction of new drugs, vaccination programmes, or health-related legislation). In the Swedish context, it is now common for epidemiological research to be conducted, in whole or in part, through population-based registries.
Duties
The tasks include research in registry epidemiology focussing mainly on pulmonary issues. The post-holder is expected to conduct successful research, obtain significant external research grants and publish in leading journals.
