We are seeking a experienced Senior Field Research Specialist to lead critical data collection
efforts at the intersection of traditional forest science and cutting-edge AI technology. In this
pivotal role, you will be the leading field survey expert at the Attsjö super test site, working in
direct collaboration with Linnaeus University. Your work will provide the essential ground
reference data needed to train and validate advanced remote sensing-based AI forest models
developed within university research projects and educational programs.
While formally employed by Katam Technologies AB, your daily work will be integrated with the
research activities at the Department of Forestry and Wood Technology, Linnaeus University.
You will be the bridge between classical forest knowledge and modern digital methodologies,
ensuring the scientific robustness and reliability of our research outputs.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Field Surveys: Conduct and oversee comprehensive field surveys at the Attsjö
super test site, serving as the leading specialist for ground reference data collection.
Data Collection for AI Models: Collect high-quality ground reference data specifically
for the training and validation of advanced AI forest models.
Forest Health Assessments: Perform detailed assessments of forest health, including
identifying damage types, grading damage severity, and evaluating crown closure.
Advanced Tool Operation: Utilize state-of-the-art digital tools for precise data
collection, including:
o Digital calipers for DBH measurements.
o PosTex ultrasonic triangulation for precise tree positioning.
o Terrestrial laser scanning systems for high-resolution structural data (branch
architecture, trunk curvature, canopy structure).
o Advanced GNSS receivers for high-precision plot and tree positioning.

Data Integration & Quality Assurance: Integrate biological understanding with
quantitative field methodology to ensure all collected data meets stringent scientific
standards.
Training & Mentorship: Train colleagues at Katam Technologies AB and students from
Linnaeus University in modern digital inventory methodology.
Qualifications & Experience:
Professional Experience: A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in
forestry, with a proven track record in:
o National forest inventory methodologies.
o Forest growth studies.
o Entomological expertise and forest damage assessment.
o Long-term crown health monitoring.
Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in using advanced digital tools for
research-based forest inventory, specifically those listed above.
Skill Set: A combination of biological expertise and competence in using modern digital
technologies. The ability to integrate classical knowledge with new tools is essential.
Methodological Rigor: A strong commitment to scientific accuracy, data quality, and
robust validation procedures.
About the role:
This is more than a field job; it is a research partnership. You will not simply be an operator of
tools, but an expert who ensures that the data driven next-generation AI forest models are
fundamentally sound. Your work will have a direct and lasting impact on the future of forest
research and digital inventory development. The seasonal continuity of critical research data
and the development of new methodologies depend on the expertise this role provides.
