The context
The heart of any large industrial company is traditionally said to lie in the manufacturing and a company's success lies in how well and efficiently high-quality products can be produced to the market. The brain behind success is normally found in the innovation and product development capabilities that the organization master. Today's trends are pointing traditional industries to shift focus towards services, expanding the value proposition as far as providing holistic eco-systems for the society. We at Digital & IT community within the Volvo Construction Equipment are no exception. We provide a complete eco-system of IT Services & Solutions for the Volvo CE Product Development, Manufacturing, Sales and what not, so that Volvo CE can be in the forefront of this transition journey.
We at Digital & IT are in a transition journey as well. Implementing new ways of working to improve our efficiency and precision to provide the IT services & solutions that bring the most value for Volvo CE business capabilities. To enable the transition in our teams, we have some key positions we plan to establish to secure our success.
Main characteristics of the job
A normal week working in our PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) teams could be something like this:
Some days of the week you would meet your colleagues at the office, some you work from home. Regardless of where you would be, you have team members in Europe, Asia and US. Stakeholders as well as our customers are from Volvo Construction Equipment and Volvo Autonomous Solutions. They are working from almost 20 different sites around the globe. So virtual meetings and calls is the standard for you.
This week there is also new team member joining the who need to learn how we work with Incidents. Since you are responsible for the incident management in our PLM teams, you would give guidance and help them to settle to our processes. You also oversee the SLAs we have for our IT services, meaning both following up the performance of our teams and partners, but also possible changes we would need to implement to meet our customer expectations.
One of the development teams has planned a deployment to Production environment. You would secure they have a proper Change Request in Service Now and secure it is approved with proper deployment plan and secured resources for the work.
One of your stakeholders come with a big new Epic that we would need to implement. You need to understand what is needed from our teams and secure together with the Product Owner we have proper capacity and competence available, may it be for 2-3 sprints or for the whole lifecycle management of the new functionality. This might impact your budget and you might need to update the forecast for some time forward to cover the efforts needed.
This week also we had a thesis worker starting and you would be the mentor, securing a good topic and support is in place for the coming months.
As we are dealing with large IT services with both SaaS, COTS and In house developed components, part of your days this week you would spend on securing that the utilization of some dedicated test environments are properly communicated and rehosting some related servers does not interrupt the business testing activities.
Not to forget that you would be closely working with your team members to secure they have well planned competence development activities for their and our teams' future success, as we dedicate on regular basis time for each individual for specific competence growth and knowledge sharing activities. Including you of course. This is one of our core habits, to stay ahead.
