MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.
The Communications Group at MAX IV Laboratory is responsible for supporting internal and external communications, including press and research communication, branding, projects and events as well as the MAX IV web site and social media presence. We advise on what should be communicated, where and when and to whom as well as providing training and certain operational assistance in communication issues to employees and management. The group consists of the Head of Communications and two Communications Officers.
Tasks
As a science communications officer with digital competence, your main responsibility will be to support staff and users at MAX IV Laboratory with your knowledge and hands-on skills to produce and publish scientific results from MAX IV.
Your role is to help disseminate research findings and in-house developments to the general public, decision makers and potential users that are not yet familiar with synchrotron light and its benefits.
The material we produce is to be easy accessible, educating and inspiring in the form of texts, photos, videos and infographics. Our main platform for outreach is our web site but we also do it through social media as well as at visits, seminars, conferences and events. You will be the main responsible for
www.maxiv.se.Our goal is to meet the public where they are, in a way that makes them interested in learning more as well as strengthening the brand of MAX IV Laboratory. In your role as science communicator you will take part in various projects, groups and events, both internally and with external collaborators.
Qualifications
As a person, you are outgoing, persuasive and has attention to details. You have a certain entrepreneurial spirit and knows how to drive ideas and projects from start to finish. You are easy-going, have a winning personality and enjoy explaining science during study visits, seminars and conferences both for high-school students and for kings.
You have a keen interest in science in general and science communication specifically and you keep track of the latest trends and tools that will enhance our work. Your ability to have a close cooperation with staff and users at the laboratory is essential to ensure highest possible efficiency and redundancy in our communication activities.
Qualifications necessary:
- University degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent experience
- University degree in Communications or equivalent education and experience
- Fluent in English, written and spoken
- Proven experience working with WordPress, Google Analytics, Adobe, and video production
- Proven experience in communicating complex science in a pedagogically way tailored to different audiences
Meriting qualifications:
- Fluent in Swedish, written and spoken
