The position of a School Counsellor is to provide support for students in relation to personal and academic issues. This person is expected to provide leadership in terms of student needs as well as personal and social curriculum development and implementation. REPORTS TO: Dean of Students Purpose: To provide on campus support for students in relation to personal, social and emotional development. To liaison with the external agencies, where necessary and appropriate, and in relation to student needs, liaison with external agencies. Duties/Responsibilities: The Counsellor is responsible for the following: . Personal counselling for primary and middle school students. . Keeping confidential information in relation to students, staff and parents. . Coordination and evaluation of responses to student needs (working closely with teachers, the Student Support Services staff, administrative staff and parents as well as external agencies). . Organising parent workshops in relation to transitioning, parenting, children's behaviour and drug education. . Liaisoning with the school nurse in relation to student needs that have components that overlap their responsibilities. . Providing leadership in Stockholm International School's Fair and Equal Treatment Plan's (FET) development and its implementation. . Providing leadership in issues related to the transitioning of students and parents in and out of the school. . Providing leadership related to the social and emotional development of the students.
The School Counsellor is expected to have: . Formal qualifications as a school counsellor . Experience in Fair and Equal Treatment work and Anti-bullying interventions. . Experience in an international school type environment. . Excellent organisational skills. . Excellent communication skills. . The ability to establish rapport with adults and students. . The ability to work effectively in a team . A pleasant and friendly personality. . The ability to maintain confidentiality. . The ability to function effectively under pressure. . The ability to show initiative and work independently.
Time allocation: 100% = 93% because of School Holidays Conditions: The School Counsellor is expected to be on campus from 8am to 5pm each day. He/she is exempt from supervision duties and after school activities.
