https://www.sipri.org/about/vacancies/researcher-senior-researcher-climate-change-and-riskStockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is looking for a talented and motivated Researcher/Senior Researcher to become a key team member in its recently established study area of Climate Change and Risk.
We are looking for either an experienced researcher or a highly promising younger researcher, as we are open to appointing either at Senior Researcher or Researcher level. It is important that the candidate has in-depth knowledge of climate-related security risks, and an ambition to contribute both to deepening knowledge about these risks and to policy development in relevant areas.
In terms of responsibilities and tasks, the main difference between Senior Researcher and Researcher is that the former will be expected to play a more significant part in designing and fundraising for programme activities.
SIPRI is an independent international institute whose core mission is to undertake research and activities on security, conflict and peace. Established in 1966, SIPRI provides data, analysis and recommendations, based on open sources, to policymakers, researchers, media and the interested public. SIPRI provides excellent opportunities for scientific and personal development, and is an equal opportunity employer.
In recent years, SIPRI has broadened its focus to include non-traditional security issues and one such area covers risks posed by climate change. This study area has three interrelated aims: (a) to deepen knowledge about how and under what circumstances climate change increases security risks; (b) to analyse how policy organizations and practitioners respond to those risks; and (c) to provide suggestions for how policy organizations can strengthen efficient and sustainable responses. Currently, the funding comes primarily from the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
