Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology, SLU
The Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology is looking for a researcher or postdoc in plant molecular genetics, for work within a project aimed at studying gene expression and gene function in the model plant Physcomitrella (a moss).
The department belongs to the SLU BioCenter, a center for research on plants and microorganisms. The BioCenter is located on the main campus of SLU in Ultuna, in the southern part of Uppsala.
Duties:
The work is aimed at studying gene expression and in particular the function of the RNA polymerase II Mediator by using molecular genetics in the model plant Physcomitrella. The work will include:
• Construcion of knockout mutats in Physcomitrella using both classical gene disruption (gene targeting) and CRISPR-based methods.
• Phenotyping of knockout mutants with respect to growth and resistance to different types of stress.
• Experiments with overexpression of genes in Physcomitrella using episomal plasmids and promotor fusions.
• Studies of gene expression by using large scale sequencing of RNA.
• Compilation and analysis of data and writing of scientific papers.
Qualifications:
• PhD or equivalent academic qualifications, preferably dealing with molecular genetics in plants.
• Significant practical experience of molecular genetics work in plants.
• Experience from working with the moss Physcomitrella is a particular merit.
• Experience from large scale sequencing and bioinformatic analysis is a merit.
• Good ability to use written and spoken English is required.
• Good abilities to collaborate and communicate are required.
For employment as postdoc the PhD degree must have been granted within three years before the last appliction date, unless special grounds for exemptions from this rule exist. This limit does not apply to employments as researcher.
