Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The University of Gothenburg promotes equal opportunities, equality and diversity.
The Department of Physics at the University of Gothenburg focuses its research within the fields of Atom- and Molecular Physics, Condensed Matter Physics and Spintronics, and Complex Systems and Biophysics. The education programs include Bachelor- and Master programs in Physics, teacher-training programs, as well as outreach courses in Physics aimed for the general public. A close collaboration with the other departments within the Faculty of Science and within Gothenburg Physics Centre creates an innovative environment for our researchers and students. For further information about the activities at the Department of Physics, please visit our website at
www.physics.gu.se.The research group works in Theoretical Physics/Statistical Physics (
http://physics.gu.se/~frtbm). The goal of this particular project is to model the population genetics of L. saxatilis by developing and analyzing mathematical models for population evolution that take into account geographic spreading and selection gradients. The project is in collaboration with Kerstin Johannesson from the Centre for Marine Evolutionary Biology (CeMEB).
Job assignments
You are expected to independently contribute to the development and analysis of mathematical models that describe evolution and genetic variation in L. saxatilis. The aim is to model how genetic patterns vary when selection pressure changes over sampling locations (so-called clines). The long-term goal is to understand genetic diversity in marine populations.
Qualifications
A PhD in Physics is required. Demonstrated experience of mathematical modeling in marine biology, of biological populations with geographic spreading and subject to selection gradients. Experience with cline analysis is required, as well as demonstrated experience of mathematical modeling with coalescent processes.
We are looking for a highly motivated theoretical physicist with experience and interest in mathematical modeling in population genetics. The successful candidate must demonstrate substantial experience of independently pursuing analytical calculations and numerical simulations of population-genetic models, and their application within marine biology. Experience in collaborating with biologists is required.
In connection to this recruitment, we have already decided which recruitment channels we should use. We therefore decline further contact with vendors, recruitment and staffing companies.
