The School of Science and Technology is seeking a researcher in Computational Mathematics for a fixed-term appointment.

Duties and responsibilities
We are looking for a researcher in Applied Mathematics with the project title 'Inverse Problems in Chromatography for the Next Generation of Pharmaceutical Drugs'. The project is part of the research in Computational Mathematics at the Department of Mathematics.

The next generation of pharmaceutical drugs is expected, to a large extent, to be based on biological molecules such as peptides, nucleotides, mRNA and therapeutic proteins, instead of the small molecules used in current bestsellers such as Losec, Nexium, Viagra and Cialis. These larger biological molecules are complicated to analyze and separate using chromatography. Therefore, we need to develop mechanistic models to describe the systems and computer tools based on these models. Furthermore, we will develop numerical algorithms to estimate system parameters and parameter functions directly from the response of a chromatographic or a biosensor system. These inverse problems are often strongly ill-posed and regularization methods must be employed.

Eligibility
The applicant should have a PhD in any of the areas Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Numerical Analysis, Computational Mathematics, Scientific Computing or similar. Competence in the area of inverse problems is required.

Assessment criteria
We are looking for an applicant with a degree as described above and documented experience of developing algorithms for ill-posed inverse problems. The applicant should have a thorough background in Applied Mathematics and Numerical Analysis. Experience of programming in Matlab is a requirement and other software development is a merit. It is important that the applicant can perform independent research of high quality and has experience of the process of publishing in international journals. Good communication skills in English both in writing and speaking are a requirement.

Proficiency in written and spoken English is a requirement. General assessment criteria include good interpersonal skills and an ability to cooperate, as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the duties well.

Equality
Our ambition is to create a workplace that is characterised by gender equality and diversity.

Information
The position is a part time position, approximately 10 %, for a fixed term of two years. The salary depends on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience.

For more information about the position, please contact Mårten Gulliksson, marten.gulliksson@oru.se
