The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 37 000 students and 6 000 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

The University of Gothenburg promotes equal opportunities, equality and diversity.

The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.

The Institute is composed of the following five departments:

• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Pathology and Genetics
• The Department of Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology

At present, the institute has about 350 employees and approximately 290 million SEK in total assets.

Candidate will work on regulatory long noncoding RNAs that have been shortlisted using genome scale functional long noncoding RNA screens. Projects in the lab involve; 1) Characterization of the mechanisms that target long noncoding RNAs to chromatin (Pandey et al., Mol Cell 2008; Mondal et al.; Genome Res 2012) 2) Exploring the functional role of long noncoding RNAs in cell differentiation programs and 3) Uncovering long noncoding RNA functions in tumor development and progression using selected cancer model systems (Gaurav et al., Cancer Cell, 2014 Nov 10;26(5):722-737). The selected candidate will work with primary tumors, tumor cell lines and mouse xenografts.

Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a researcher, applicants must have a PhD. The prospective candidate is expected to have experience with cell-based assays and good experience in molecular biology techniques.
