At the Department of Biosystems and Technology we explore the interactions between soil, plants, animals, environment, climate and humans in systems for sustainable production of food and renewable raw materials. Our teaching and research deal with questions about sustainable and efficient use of limited resources for production in greenhouses, on agricultural land and in farm buildings.
Duties:
The applicant will carry out research in collaboration with researchers at the department, supervise PhD, MSc- and BSc-students and teach at mainly MSc-level. Within the relevant area of research, duties include writing applications for external funding, leading and participating in projects, finalizing and publishing projects both scientifically and popularly.
Qualifications:
We are looking for an interdisciplinary research scientist equipped to carry out research and teaching on the topic of agroecology (defined in this case as the study of ecology and sustainability of food systems, with focus on interactions between plants, animals, humans and the environment within agricultural production systems). Ideal candidates should have expertise in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), participatory research, optimisation modelling, Fuzzy Cognitive Mapping, consumer research and public goods auditing.
The applicant needs to demonstrate excellent skills within both research and teaching in the relevant area. Merits within both scientific publishing and success in grant applications are needed. The applicant needs extensive teaching experience and course and student evaluations of high quality is a merit. Demonstrated high ability of collaboration within both academics and the farming industry is required.
A knowledge of the Swedish academic system is a merit.
Place of work:
The position is located in Alnarp, however the applicant is expected to work in Uppsala and Skara as well.
Form of employment:
Permanent employment. SLU uses probationary employment for 6 months.
