Aquatic ecology and Climate Change
Welcome to join our team working on dynamics of fish communities and aquatic food webs, and their responses to climate change, exploitation and other human pressures (www.slu.se/fishinfoodwebs).
You will assist this research by preparing and analyzing organismal- and water samples collected from experiments and field studies in fresh- and brackish water, and assist in such field work at sea and on land. Work tasks also include making simple data collations and result reports, as well as writing instructions for some of the analyses executed. Specific examples include identifying, measuring and counting zooplankton, preparing samples from fish and their prey for analyses of e.g. stable isotopes, as well as analyses of chlorophyll concentrations in water samples. We also like you to contribute to the development of our new laboratory and the analysis methods used in our research group.
Qualifications:
We are looking for a motivated and responsible person who is experienced in laboratory work. A BSc or MSc degree in limnology, aquatic ecology, marine ecology, environmental sciences or similar subject of relevance for the research field is a requirement. Knowledge of aquatic organisms, including zoo- and phytoplankton is preferable. Experience in identifying aquatic organisms is a merit, and especially of zooplankton is highly meriting. Skills and experience in biological laboratory analyses as well as relevant chemical analyses are a merit. Experience of independent work on fish and aquatic field work, as well as of developing laboratory environments are a merit. Drivers license, as well as documented skills and experience in driving small motorboats is a merit. Skills in data handling in Excel or in R is a merit.
We place great emphasis on personal qualities, in terms of their suitability for the tasks to be undertaken in the project, such as meticulousity, ability to work in a team and responsibility. It is a requirement that you are fluent in spoken and written English.
The application shall be written in English and include a personal letter with motivation, a CV as well as contact details of two references (name, relation to the candidate, email and phone number).
