hela Sverige At Research and Development you will be a key contributor to the next generation outstanding luxury cars from Volvo. Together with other engineers around the world, you and your team will create innovative human-centric car technology that makes life less complicated and more enjoyable for people. Are you interested in design and connected car technology? Do you share our passion for people, the environment and our urge to create a superior driving experience? Research and Development is the place for you to prosper.
Are you willing to spend the next four years on Diesel combustion research and obtain a PhD degree?
You will work as an industrial PhD student spending approximately half of your time at VCC in Gothenburg and half of your time at Lund University in the department of energy sciences and division of combustion engines.
Home base will be group 97622, the Diesel Engine Concepts & Attribute group. In Diesel Engine Concepts & Attributes our key deliveries are to develop the engine attributes to meet new environmental and customer demands. The most important engine attributes that we are responsible of are fuel consumption, performance, emissions and NVH. We are also responsible to deliver and test engine concepts in early advanced engineering phases.
Main responsibilities:
Your research will be VCCs contribution into the competence centre for combustion processes, a competence centre which is financed 1/3rd by the Swedish Energy Agency, 1/3rd by Industry and 1/3rd by the university itself. Your research will be on increasing the efficiency of the diesel combustion process, studying the interaction between the fuel spray and in-cylinder gas flow in order to find ways to lower heat losses by reduced fluid motion (decreased swirl), while maintaining low emissions. The work is divided in two main parts closely linked together: LES simulations used as a tool in a diesel combustion environment and experimental investigations in an optical engine.
