hela Sverige The Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI) invites applications for a new full-time, permanent position as professor in traffic safety with a focus on injury prevention. The position will also be linked to the division of Vehicle Safety at the department of Mechanics and Maritime Sciences (M2), Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg. The professorship has an expected starting date in 2020 and is placed at VTI:s office in Göteborg.
About the position
The position is aimed to develop the field of traffic safety and injury prevention with a focus on new technologies and infrastructures as well as integration with other goals for a sustainable development.
This requires:
• Methods and tools to be adopted to current and new use-cases e.g. what are the injury mechanisms when traveling in automated vehicles? What are the most important accidents to focus on both as new types of mobility emerges and in the current traffic system?
• Collaboration between different stakeholders such as industry, governmental agencies and academia.
• New methods for assessment and further enhancement of safety for all road users.
Specific goals are to provide research that supports Sweden in reaching the intermediate goals of Vision Zero and Agenda 2030. The research should also address traffic safety on an international level and contribute to knowledge within the international scientific traffic safety community.
The position will be liked to undergraduate and graduate (PhD) studies at Chalmers.
We are looking for an internationally acknowledged researcher who has proven to make significant and innovative contributions in the area of traffic safety and specifically in the field of injury prevention.
We expect proven experience in writing grant applications with a good track record and a strong publication record in leading scientific journals as well as contributions at leading international scientific conferences. The successful candidate is a proven and experienced project leader and should take a leading role in shaping future directions of the traffic safety and development of methods for injury prevention research at VTI, Chalmers and within SAFER. Continuation and further engagement in national and international network activities is also an important task.
You have a PhD degree in Transportation Engineering, Traffic Safety or equivalent, and at least at the level of an associate professor (Docent).
Criteria for scientific and pedagogic excellence:
• The scientific proficiency shall be such that the candidate is internationally recognized within the research field of traffic safety
• Scientific excellence shall be demonstrated in independent research on a level that exceeds the requirements for associate professor ("docent") both qualitatively and quantitatively
• The candidate's scientific publications shall be recent, high quality and published in international scientific journals and conferences
• The candidate shall have documented experience of initiating, building up, leading and successfully carrying out research activities through funding that has been secured on a competitive basis nationally and internationally
• The candidate shall have documented experience of supervisory work (for example of master's students, PhD students) and shall ideally have been a de facto main supervisor for at least one PhD candidate to the doctoral degree.
Good oral and written skills in English are required. Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement at the time of appointment, but the successful applicant will be required within three years to master Swedish sufficiently to be able to participate actively in all the functions and tasks that the position entails, including communication with external stakeholders.
