Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we're expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we're on the lookout for new talent.

Let's create a sustainable future together

At Open Innovation Arena, we're on a mission to make people's lives more climate-friendly and to support the transition to a convenient life with electric vehicles. We design our services around people, and we innovate to provide mobility that is personal, sustainable, and safe. The Open Innovation Arena (OIA) is a construct based on the idea that innovation is a companywide matter, the arena is a place of participation reaching beyond the company. Our role is to prepare Volvo Cars for different futures by tackling our greatest uncertainties. The ambition is set very high - it goes far beyond technology and encompasses all aspects to reach planetary safety. One of our main goals is to contribute to a more sustainable world.

Want to join us at Energy Services Lab - as a Product Owner with a focus on the charging experience - on our exciting journey?

One initiative in OIA is the Energy Services Lab (ESL), where we explore the Energy Eco-System to understand which role Volvo Cars can have in the future energy landscape. We are focusing on activities outside the car itself, even though the batteries in the car will play a vital part in the future energy system. Within the Energy Services Lab, we want to take research and translate that into real solutions in the exploration journey. We need to combine theories with practical experiments (prototypes and pilots). We are exploring everything from charging a car to the stabilization of the electrical grid. We work with a high degree of freedom, in true agile philosophy, with a high degree of collaboration and a positive mindset. We have very skilled software developers in our team, but since our scope is expanding and we are entering a new phase (from prototype to pilot), we need to strengthen the team with a Product Owner who is passionate about user experience, home and public charging, vehicle to home/grid and preferably an interest in the future electricity system in our society. Is that you?

You and your skills.

In this role, experience and skills within energy systems and solutions are of greater value than those of vehicle systems. Most important is that you have experience and opinions on how we can make the charging experience more user-friendly. A general interest in technology is of course beneficial. A background in EV charging standards, charging infrastructure, and V2G would be of high value. Other qualifications include:

• Knowledge and experience of modern software development (incl. DevOps)
• Experience working in a fast-paced, creative, and agile environment
• Experience in how to manage a product backlog
• Knowledge about the general electrical grid system in the society
• Fluent in English (both written and verbal)

You are a curious and analytical person, with a passion for user experience, sustainability, and technology. Furthermore, you possess the analytical skills to translate technical capabilities into business value for our users. Experience in product ownership is meritorious, but not required.

What You'll Do.

As a Product Owner, you will collect user requirements from different sources and translate them into features. You will do workshops, interview people, and work closely with the development team to achieve our goals - a world-class electric vehicle charging experience. As part of the role, you are expected to do hands-on support with the hardware and software of the prototypes, to fully ensure a closed loop between theory and practice. You will also serve as a key player when we build a strategy and in the creation of a roadmap that will support our strategic goals.

Additionally, you will be required to work closely with other groups in the organization to make sure we cover the right topics and align our vision with those groups.

What do we offer?

A creative and self-organizing environment where we don't really differentiate between different roles - we basically operate as a start-up, but within an existing company. We expect you to take initiative and responsibility for your activities, but also be transparent with the rest of the team, be inclusive in your attitude, and act as a team player.
