We are looking for an ambitious postdoc with solid single-cell immunology skills to join our highly accomplished team of immunologists in a project funded by the Swedish Cancer Society and Karolinska Institutet.
We offer a stimulating environment in a rapidly moving research frontier.
The Mjösberg group (
https://mjosberglab.wixsite.com/ilcs and
https://ki.se/en/medh/jenny-mjosberg-group) studies the development, regulation and function of innate lymphoid cells (ILCs), in humans, and how these cells contribute to pathology in mucosal organs such as the lung and gut. The studies are translational as they involve advanced basic molecular and cellular immunological investigations of precious human tissue samples to discover novel disease mechanisms, therapy targets and improved strategies for personalized treatment. The Mjösberg group consists of three PhD students, four postdocs and a lab manager working closely together with clinical partners at several Swedish hospitals and laboratory facilities at Science for Life Laboratories (SciLifeLab), Karolinska Institutet and abroad. Your Mission
The Mjösberg group is internationally recognized as a leader in the field through several high impact publications in recent years (Nat Immunol 2016, JACI 2018, JACI 2019, Nat Comm 2020 etc). In particular, the postdoc will continue the successful line of investigations utilizing single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to dissect human intestinal mucosal ILC and T cell biology in health and disease. The postdoc will be a part of the Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM), Karolinska Institutet, which is a nationally leading and internationally competitive center for human translational immunology and infectious diseases research. The center consists of approximately 25 graduate students and 25 postdocs organized around 14 independent research groups.
The project involves generation of scRNA-seq (SMARTseq and 10X genomics) data as well as multicolor flow cytometry data of human intratumoral ILCs and T cells in colorectal cancer. The postdoc will work closely together with gastrosurgeons at Karolinska University Hospital. The data will be analyzed in close collaboration with bioinformaticians at SciLifeLab. As this is a team effort, excellent communication skills are essential, as is proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams. It is expected that the postdoc also supervise students and other researchers if necessary, as well as contribute to common lab duties.
Your profile
The candidate must hold a PhD equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree in the field of immunology. The candidate must fully master multidimensional (>20 parameters) flow cytometry analysis and sorting, as well as be experienced in scRNAseq. Experience in isolation and in vitro culturing of primary immune cells is a requirement, as is basic functional in vitro assessments of immune cell function such as intracellular cytokine stainings, ELISA etc. The candidate should be familiar with R software and have some experience analyzing scRNAseq data. The candidate should have a strong publication track-record. The candidate should be self-motivated, have good communications skills and a proven ability to interact effectively and work productively in an interdiciplinary team. Fluency in English is a requirement as well as some basic skills and willingness to learn Swedish.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
