We are looking for a postdoc to join our team at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Become part of our group and contribute to research in catalysis within a collaborative and dynamic environment.

About the project and research environment
Catalysis will play a pivotal role in the transition from a fossil fuel-based society to a more sustainable and renewable future. In this project, you will design novel electro-thermocatalytic reactors for important chemical reactions involving biomass-derived chemicals.

The position is located in the Luneau Research Group (www.luneaulab.com). Using a multidisciplinary approach, the group focuses on designing and investigating new catalytic materials and reactors for sustainable reactions, with the overall goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions from the production of energy and chemicals. The group is part of the Competence Centre for Catalysis at Chalmers, an interdisciplinary research center gathering academic and industrial partners. The position is funded by the European Research Council.

Your main goal and responsibilities
The goal of your project is to design a novel type of reactor that uniquely bridges electro- and thermocatalysis, in collaboration with PhD students. You will:

Synthesize catalysts (thin films or metal nanoparticles).

Characterize catalysts using a wide range of advanced techniques available at the department and at the Chalmers Materials Analysis Laboratory (CMAL)

• Design and test a new reactor at the lab-scale

You will also participate in at least one scientific meeting per year to present results from your research and develop your network.

In addition to your own research and experiments, you will also supervise and help train new students when they join the group. This will help develop your skills as a mentor/supervisor.

This position will give you valuable experience and help you prepare for a future career in industry, academia, or other sectors.

Your profile
We are seeking a motivated and skilled researcher who has:

A PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, or materials science (awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline*)

Expertise in catalysis (electrocatalysis or thermocatalysis)

And/or experience with characterization techniques (XPS, SEM, TEM, XRD...)

And/or experience with lab-scale reactor design

The project is experimental in nature, so you should be motivated to work in the lab, eager to learn new techniques, and able to take initiative. You should also be organized and capable of working independently as well as collaboratively.

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required.

• The date on your doctoral degree certificate is considered the official date of completion. Exceptions to the three-year eligibility limit may be made for documented circumstances such as parental leave, sick leave, or military service.

Contract terms
The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years.

The position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date, otherwise the offer may be withdrawn.

What we offer
