Department of Soil and Environment, Uppsala
Post Doctoral position
in Soil Biology, with emphasis on tropical soil fertility
SLU develops the understanding and sustainable use of biological natural resources. This is achieved through research, teaching, environmental monitoring and assessment and information extension.
SLU has 3 000 employees, 4 200 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Main campuses are located at Alnarp, Skara, Uppsala and Umeå.
www.slu.sewww.mark.slu.seThe Department of Soil and Environment conducts basic and applied research regarding biological, physical and chemical soil processes, the soil-plant-atmosphere system, influence of soil management methods and effects of pollutants. Profound knowledge about soil properties and processes is a prerequisite for obtaining a sustainable crop production in forests and arable land, and for understanding and mitigating effects of pollutants.
Research area: The overall objective is to investigate and analyze factors influencing soil fertility in tropical soils, with particular emphasis on Africa. Investigation of soil C stocks, SOM and GHG emissions, in relation to different agro-ecological zones and socio-economic conditions, has high priority, as well as climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Assignment: The main task of the holder of the announced position is to carry out research regarding soil C stocks and GHG emissions in relation to African small-holder farming systems management, in close cooperation with researchers at CIAT-TSBF and IITA.
Eligibility criteria: A PhD degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants should have been awarded their degree not more than 3 years ago at the time of application.
Assessment criteria: Emphasis will be placed on scientific qualifications within the research area. The applicant should be well acquainted with the CGIAR system. Previous field experience (min 3 years) in sub-Saharan Africa and familiarity with on-station and on-farm research is highly regarded. Experience in supervision of students (BSc, MSc and MFS) is also valued.
This is a full-time position that will be granted for a period of 2 years (if funding becomes available), starting as soon as possible. SLU is an equal opportunity employer.
