Hereby advertises a position as
Postdoctor in "In situ X-ray scattering characterization of film growth"
formally based at the division of Thin Film Physics at the Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
Duties
The postdoc will participate in a large research project studying growth and properties of transition metal diborides and nitrides, mainly for hard coatings applications on cutting tools. The successful candidate will be the team's scientist in in situ X-ray scattering analyses during nucleation and growth from the vapor phase under ultra high vacuum conditions. The duties include responsibility for maintenance and upgrade of a tailor-made in situ PVD-system (magnetron sputter deposition and cathodic arc deposition) for the X-ray experiments at the synchrotron Petra III in Hamburg. The candidate shall also assist the team in the data analyses from the growth experiments and similar experiment carried out on the coatings during high-speed cutting. Moreover, the candidate will be responsible for coordinating the division's Ion-Beam Analyses of thin films at Uppsala University. This means that a considerable part of the time will be spent outside Linköping University in Hamburg and Uppsala.
A Postdoctor will essentially carry out research. The position may also involve teaching, but no more than a fifth of work time.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a doctorate or an equivalent degree from a foreign university within materials physics, nano technology, technical physics, or a similar field, with focus on thin film growth and/or synchrotron based X-ray scattering analyses. The candidate should also have experienced in ion beam analyses. Documented experience from duties, as described above are considered favorable. The doctorate should have been obtained no longer than three years before the expiration date of the application.
Appointment time
Two years.
Starting date
By agreement ass soon as possible.
