We are looking for a postdoc eager to explore the possibilities in the latest atom probe tomography (APT) technology, and to apply this to atomic-scale steel research. The postdoc will work in a small research group, which has a long-standing tradition in atom probe research and a well-equipped lab for materials characterization.

Project description
You will join the Division of Microstructure Physics at the Department of Physics. Our research is focused on understanding the links between the process, structure, properties and performance of engineering materials. For this purpose we employ electron microscopy, atom probe tomography and various scattering/diffraction techniques. We have recently installed a new atom probe instrument of the latest generation, a LEAP 6000 XR, which is equipped with a newly developed deep-UV laser, simultaneous laser/voltage pulsing and scripted acquisition, features that the post-doc will explore. The ideal candidate has experience from APT and is skilled in FIB-based specimen preparation.

Major responsibilities
The postdoc will pursue her/his own research in cooperation with the academic staff, as well as industry partners. This includes carrying out experiments and data evaluation, and to report findings at project meetings and in scientific journal articles. The person will play an important role in exploring the best ways to use the new instrument and the data evaluation tools, as well as assisting other users. Supervision of PhD students and Master students can be included.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers).
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Mandatory qualifications:
• experience from independent use of APT and specimen preparation using FIB.

Meritorious qualifications:
• experience in electron microscopy, correlative microscopy, steel metallurgy, nuclear research and advanced APT data evaluation.

You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years with the posibility of a one-year extension.
