The University has 40 000 students and 8 160 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light.
General
HIPPIE is a soft x-ray beamline at the MAX IV Laboratory dedicated for APXPS.
It began user operations two years ago and currently offers variety of sample environments (e.g. catalysis, electrochemistry, liquid jet) for performing XPS measurements under realistic conditions. One of the unique characteristics of the beamline is possibility to perform simultaneous measurements of APXPS and PM-IRRAS simultaneously on the same spot using standalone FTIR spectrometer as a source of IR radiation. This combination provides excellent complementary information to properly distinguish adsorbed species on the surface of catalysts. Together with the SPECIES beamline HIPPIE constitutes the APXPS team consisting of 9 currently members working together on the support and development of APXPS program at MAX IV. Both beamlines provide wide range of sample environments for in situ and operando XPS measurements - catalysis, electrochemistry, thin film growth, solid-liquid interfaces, liquid jets, and sulphur chemistry.
Work duties and areas of responsibility
- Development and commissioning of the PM-IRRAS setup at the APXPS endstation of the HIPPIE beamline.
- Development of her/his own scientific project within the possibilities and capabilities of the beamline (e.g. catalysis, thin films, or membranes) and collaboration with user groups and APXPS staff.
- Interaction with and support of expert users and regular users
- Active participation in the continued commissioning of the beamlines and end stations in collaboration with the entire team.
Requirements
• The successful candidate must hold a PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related discipline.
• Documented extensive experience of working with IRRAS spectroscopy.
• Documented extensive experience of performing and interpreting surface science experiments.
• Documented extensive experience of working with ultrahigh vacuum instrumentation.
• The ability work in a team, good communication skills and good command of the English
Desirable
• Experience in programming
• Experience of synchrotron-based spectroscopy and/or microscopy experiments, of working with x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and of work with the design, and set-up of new surface science instruments.
• Experience in the fields of electrochemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, liquied microjet, ALD, membranes, or 2D materials
Other
The scientific project of the researcher can also make use of other beamlines at MAX IV or at other synchrotron radiation facilities. The general surface science environment of MAX IV (which includes a scanning tunnelling microscopy laboratory) can also be employed. Access the Lund's University NanoLab facilities (e.g. SEM, STM, AFM, clean room) is also possible.
