The University has 42 000 students and 7 400 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.
The Science division is divided into a number of supporting groups and three scientifically oriented groups, Imaging, Diffraction and Scattering, and Spectroscopy.
These groups are further divided into teams based on beamline or scientific technique. Each team has the task to develop and support the instrumentation and scientific activity at the different beamlines. The aim is to maintain and develop state of the art equipment at stable operation.
You will be part of the BLOCH team at the BLOCH beamline. The beamline split into two branch lines specialized to angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and spin and angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (SPIN). The beamline consists of a cPGM monochromator with a NIM option, sourced by an elliptically polarizing quasi-periodic undulator. The main instrumentation at the ARPES end station is a ScientaOmicron DA30L analyzer with an online ScientaOmictron VT-STM. The SPIN end station is still under development but expected to be operational by mid 2018.
You will be involved in the commissioning of the new beamline and end stations, bringing it to user operation. In this role your work and responsibility will be;
- Taking part in commissioning of new beamline and end stations
- Performing maintenance during operation
- Participating in development of new equipment
- User support and training of visiting researchers
- Taking an active part in the research projects, both in collaboration with others as well as in driving your own.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in physics or related discipline
- Working with ultra-high vacuum
- Angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy
- Experience of using synchrotron radiation
- Willingness for user support
- Ability to work both unsupervised and in a team
- Must be fluent both in written and spoken English.
Meriting Qualifications
- Experience in Angle and Spin resolved photoemission
- Data analysis/computer skills/mechanical/electronics skills
- Concrete and clear ideas of research and/or developmental projects that you would like to undertake during the postdoc time period.
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the doctoral degree or equivalent is completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier
