Materials Science is one of the focus areas of the faculty's research, including materials physics, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, and physical chemistry. Polymer photovoltaics has developed as an active topic of research in this focus area and has received support from the Swedish Research Council and the Swedish Energy Agency. We now have the opportunity to strengthen our research group with a post-doctoral researcher for a fixed-term appointment of two years.
Polymer Solar Cells
We are looking for a skilled experimentalist with strong interest in the fundamental materials aspects of polymer solar cells. The research group has during the last eight years built up experience in the morphological aspects of thin films of blends of conjugated polymers with fullerenes. The present research project aims at fabricating polymer solar cells from blends of polymers with fullerenes and nanoparticles, manipulate the film morphology by controlled interface engineering and investigating how the morphology affects the performance. The main methods are electrical characterization of the devices, as well as morphological characterization by techniques such as atomic force microscopy (AFM), Kelvin probe measurements, synchrotron-based X-ray photoemission and absorption spectroscopy (NEXAFS) and secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). Additional new methods, such as neutron reflectometry, may become part of the project. The post-doctoral researcher is also expected to act as a liaison with industrial partners. Most of the experimental work will be carried out at Karlstad University, even though specific investigations may be done at laboratories we cooperate with.
Starting date
1 September 2010 or upon agreement.
Length of employment
The post is a fixed-term full-time position and will last 24 months. Extension would be subject to additional external funding.
Qualifications and assessment criteria
For this position a doctoral degree is required in Physics, Engineering Physics, or in another related and for this project relevant discipline. The doctoral degree should on 1 July 2010 not be older than 3 years, unless there are special circumstances. Research experience with focus on device fabrication and characterization is a strong asset, as is also experience with polymer electronics. Relevant practical experience with systems for coating from solution, physical vapour deposition, and software for semiconductor device characterization are an asset. Demonstrated ability to act as a liaison between academic and industrial partners and experience with the planning of research projects are advantages. Selection is on the basis of individual assessment.
